General note जयशंकर प्रसाद (1889-1937) का महाकाव्य कामायनी आधुनिक हिंदी साहित्य की सबसे महत्त्वपूर्ण साहित्यिक कृति मानी जाती है। इसमें मानवीय संवेदनाओं, विचारों और कर्म का आदान-प्रदान दर्शाया गया है। यह महाकाव्य एक वैदिक कथानक पर आधारित है जिसमें मनु (एक मनुष्य) प्रलय के बाद अपने को बिल्कुल भावनाहीन पाता है। फिर कैसे वह अलग-अलग भावनाओं, विचारों और कर्मों में उलझने लगता है। कई लोगों का मानना है कि कामायनी के अध्यायों का क्रम इस बात का संकेत देता है कि उम्र के साथ मनुष्य के व्यक्तित्व में कैसे परिवर्तन आता है। यह महाकाव्य छायावादी कविता का सबसे अच्छा उदाहरण माना जाता है।
